The 1850 California census showed that 95% of the new arrivals were men. Many sources mention that most of the people who responded to the call of gold were single men. But were they single or just traveling without their wives and families? Join us as Lesley Gaunt, Park Ranger with the National Park Service at Scotts Bluff National Monument, shares what life was like for the women left at home during the gold rush period through this living history program.
