Between 1847 and 1860 over 80,000 members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) made the overland trek from the Eastern United States to the Great Salt Lake Valley.  The vast majority of these Mormons traveled in traditional wagon trains.  However, between 1856 and 1860 the Church leadership implemented a plan to bring 3,000 European converts to the Salt Lake Valley by pulling their worldly belongings in small wooden handcarts. Join us as living historian Dave Jamiel addresses several questions regarding why handcarts and what happened to these companies.
