In Review:

The U.S. Topographical Engineers were a unique and specially designated branch of the military.

The U.S. Topographical Engineers were a unique and specially designated branch of the military.  Led by John C. Fremont between 1842-1846, their purpose was to conduct scientific surveys as well as to discover and explore various routes to the west.  Their important work resulted in the first scientific mapping of the west.  Living historians will utilize original and reproduction equipment used by the Topographical Engineers.
